- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth and thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix well.
- Pour the mac and cheese into a greased baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and melted butter, then sprinkle over the mac and cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add cooked bacon or diced tomatoes to the macaroni before baking.
